Mobile barber for corporate offices in Mexico City

A barber who sets up on fixed days inside Polanco and Reforma office buildings, booked by staff through a company portal.

Service business · Mexico City, Mexico · Health & beauty · Checked 2026-10-04 · Full Check

Kill Do not build this as described. The problems are structural, not fixable with effort.

As described, this is not worth building yet: it sells a convenience that the many Polanco barbershops already provide, and rivals already offer corporate service. The main reason is that no evidence shows employers or staff will pay, and building access, licensing and office attendance are all unverified. Test first whether 3 of 25 HR or facilities managers will commit to a paid pilot day.

Why the numbers land here. The scores are low because staff already have many barbers nearby, rivals already sell corporate and on-site services, and nobody has shown that employers or staff will pay for it. Cost is not the problem here: the idea is cheap to test but unproven on demand, building access and rules.

Red flags

  1. Staff can already get a cut at lunch or until 9pm at shops in Polanco, so the convenience gain is small. [38][39]
  2. Mobile pricing cannot sit far above shop prices. Glitzi's at-home fade is about MXN 399 against MXN 420 at Bardo's Barber.
  3. Corporate-barber rivals already exist in CDMX: Glitzi has a corporate line and The Barber's Spa has a company services arm.
  4. A fixed-day model needs people physically at desks that day, and hybrid attendance is unknown.
  5. Building rules, tenant contracts, security and insurance are all unverified and are the most likely blockers.
  6. CDMX licensing, health notices, IMSS labour duties for hired barbers and CFDI invoicing were not researched.

The eight dimensions

Problem severityweight 15%4/10

Getting a haircut is a regular need, but it is a convenience problem rather than a painful one. Polanco already has many barbers near the offices, so staff can slip out at lunch or book late. The founder's claim that staff want this at work is untested.

  • Polanco and Reforma shops already take bookings in the target zone, including late hours [38][39]
  • No HR survey, forum complaint or search data on staff wanting on-site grooming was found
Market size and demandweight 15%4/10

Daytime customers exist in the target buildings, but the real market is only the staff who show up on the fixed day and pay or are subsidised. No buyer numbers were found. Hybrid attendance in Polanco and Reforma is unknown.

  • Polanco office stock was 84.06% occupied and Reforma 84.95% (Q4 2024); this is lease occupancy, not people at desks [10]
  • Reforma vacancy was 10.19% and Polanco 11.50% in Q1 2026, against 17.18% citywide [11]
  • Barbershop counts rose sharply nationally, but this is national context, not Polanco demand [1][2]
Competition and saturationweight 15%3/10

Polanco is full of barbershops, and at-home and corporate barber services already exist in CDMX. A solo barber has no obvious wedge beyond convenience, and the price premium is small.

  • Polanco men's haircuts run about MXN 400-450 at shops, which is close to what an on-site service could charge [38][39]
  • Glitzi already offers home, office or hotel visits with a Corporativos section, and The Barber's Spa runs a Servicios Empresariales page (competitor sites, not in the numbered source list)
Timingweight 10%5/10

Prime offices are filling again, and the move to a 40-hour week may make employers value perks that save personal time. That second point is my inference, and the reform takes effect in stages to 2030.

  • Central business district vacancy fell to 11.15% against 17.18% citywide [11]
  • Corridors in the central business district took 50% of demand on 41% of stock [11]
Feasibilityweight 15%4/10

The kit is cheap and no van is needed. But CDMX licensing and health rules, building access, tenant and insurance limits, and CFDI invoicing were not researched. Any of them could block the first day.

  • Solo barber kit costs USD 1,500-4,000 in US/UK guides, not Mexican prices [24][22]
Monetization and unit economicsweight 15%4/10

Roughly 8 cuts a day at about MXN 400 gives about MXN 3,200 gross on a fixed day, but fixed days limit how many days a week you earn. Staff will not pay much above shop prices, so the margin depends on an employer subsidy that no one has agreed to.

  • Polanco cuts cost MXN 380-530 with extras, against MXN 350 in Roma Norte (Profeco, via El Imparcial; not in the numbered source list)
  • Sterlings Mobile in San Diego is described as subsidised by the companies it visits [29]
  • Camief's claim that men spend USD 200-800 a month is a trade-body claim and far above local per-cut prices [5]
Founder fitweight 5%5/10

Nothing is known about the founder's barbering skill, corporate contacts or time. A barber with one HR contact in a tower could do well. A founder with neither would struggle to get the first door open.

Unverified: no source found for this dimension.

Fatal risksweight 10%3/10

Two dependencies can end the idea: building management refusing access, and too few staff on site on the fixed day. A third is that a rival with brand and corporate sales already in place can undercut you.

  • The only comparable found is a US trailer service whose expansion was halted by COVID in early 2020 [29]
  • Hybrid attendance in Polanco and Reforma was not researched

Demand

No search volume, HR survey or complaint data was found for on-site barbering. Suppliers' corporate pages suggest some companies buy this, but no buyer numbers were found. National barbershop growth is real but is not Polanco demand. [1][2]

Size

TAM: men's grooming in Mexico, cited at USD 320 million a year with no year given [1]. SAM: staff in Polanco and Reforma office buildings who get cuts at work. SOM: tied to one barber's capacity, about 8 cuts a day on fixed days. All of these are my assumptions and not verified.

Revenue model

Per-service fees paid by staff or an employer subsidy, booked through a company portal on fixed days.

USD. Kit (USD 1,500-4,000) and first-year liability insurance (USD 300-600) come from US/UK guides, not Mexican prices [24][22]. High end adds a portal or booking tool, permits and uniforms, all assumed. No van is needed for an in-building model. Monthly is my estimate for software, transport and supplies and excludes your own pay. A hired barber in Polanco earns about MXN 15,000-25,000 a month (Indeed ads).

Price point: About MXN 400-450 per haircut, in line with Polanco shops. A haircut plus beard could reach about MXN 600.
Unit economics: At about MXN 400 and 40-minute slots, a full 8-cut day is about MXN 3,200 gross (my arithmetic). Fewer on-site days or empty slots cut this fast. Costs are low per day, so the weak point is days booked per month, which depends on employer commitments.
